This kit was a lot of fun to build. Zarkus Model Kits specializes in Expanded Universe subjects and this kit is no exception. One of the earliest walkers, the AT-PT is a great design. The kit was very cleanly cast and only required a little bit of cleanup. The body was hollow cast so if you wanted to light or detail the interior, you could. The legs all fit together well and with careful gluing, could be left positionable with tight joints. I built this kit in less than 24 hours making it an enjoyable weekend project. I decided to go for a standard military color scheme when I got the idea for the little vignette you see here. I painted the walker primer gray and weathered it with black, pewter gray and a mix of the two as well as a little rusty red and silver for highlights. I also added a black wash to accent the beautiful detail in the kit. To give it a little realistic flavor, I added a few decals I had lying around. There are warning triangles near the vents, a warning note near the access hatch and a few more for some various markings. The kit supplied base is awesome, it just screamed to be made into something cool. I decided to make the base really hostile looking and thus came up with something similar to Mars or even Geonosis. It was done with a base coat of Model Master Dark Tan with a dusting of red automotive paint and then some dry brushing of red, dark red and gray acrylics. I then added some repainted and modified MicroMachines figures to complete the display. I only glued one foot of the AT-PT down and left the leg joints unglued so I could position it however I wanted. I think the overall effect was pretty neat. All in all this was a really great kit that I would recommend to anyone. It was originally available from Zarkus Model Kits for $20. Unfortunately it is now out of production. However, it should be available in a re-release from the Starship Modeler Store. How can you say no? :)
