The Trade Federation Tank, one of the coolest vehicles of Episode One. This is a really awesome kit from AMT/ERTL. Like I always say, it is shame they gave up the license, they started to do some great stuff with the Star Wars line. As far as I can see, this kit is very accurate and faithfully portrays the subject. Assembly was not overly difficult. There were a lot of pieces and quite a few small ones, but that's ok. That's what model building is all about, right? One thing that require work is the main hull. The main body is split into to two pieces right down the middle. Needless to say, there was a small little seam running down the middle of the ship. This will need to be filled, otherwise it ruins the whole effect. The top piece of the ship covers up the rest of the seam. One neat thing about this kit is that the turret is fully positionable. You can move it around all over the place. It's just a lot of fun. After assembly was done, I moved on to painting. The instructions suggest a lot of different colors, but I ended up just mixing colors until I found ones that looked right to me. The main color of the ship is based in Sand with a little bit of brown mixed in. The detail areas are based in Tan with some Sand mixed in as well as other colors. The whole ship has many different colors overall and makes for a nice contrast in values. For weathering I airbrushed a lot of black and used some black washes. I had a disaster when weathering the main gun tubes on the front of the ship. They are supposed to have black exhaust streaks coming back from the across the top of the ship so I airbrushed them. When I got down to the last one, for some reason, my airbrush spat a whole load of black paint all over the side of the ship!! That entire side was ruined and had to be repainted. It was already weathered and everything. It still doesn't look good to my eyes. I can still see some of the black through the repainted sections. I was really lucky I still had some mixed paint left over. I got this kit from Wal-Mart for around $10.
